The Milke Way

“What am I in most people’s eyes? A nonentity or an eccentric and disagreeable man–somebody who has no position in society and never will have, in short, the lowest of the low. Very well, even if this were true, I should want my work to show what is in the heart of such an eccentric, of such a nobody.” Vincent VanGogh

About the Artist

Amanda Milke was born Amanda Mary Lynn Bampton on May 18th, 1979 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
With crayons as her first medium and her mother’s blank hallway walls as her canvas, her passion for the arts began to blossom. She excelled in art classes all through her school years and by High School she was already working on several large canvases.

In the summer of 2001 she completed several murals for a local church’s DVBS program. In fall of that year she entered into her Bachelor of Arts degree at Atlantic Baptist University. In 2003 she was accepted into the Oxford three month exchange program and studied at Regent’s Park College of Oxford University in England. It was during her time there that she met the man that would be her husband and in 2004 they were married. In spring of 2006 she graduated with her BA degree in English and History. She then immediately entered into a three month TESL certificate program. In August 2006 her and her husband departed for Mizusawa, Iwate, Japan where they both worked as English teachers for a year and a half.

Amanda now lives in Alberta, Canada, with her husband. Although she dabbles in a variety of mediums, her favorite has always been acrylic paint. Amanda specializes in abstract paintings and is currently trying to work out a meager existence as an artist.
